Michelle Asby is a licensed clinical social worker with over 20 years of collective work in nonprofit, community mental health, and in hospitals.  Her depth of experience has equipped her with strong clinical skills not only in mental health, but with vulnerable youth and families, homeless individuals, and substance use. All of which has greatly influenced her practice. Michelle spent over 4 years as a co-responder with local law enforcement in Kansas City helping individuals in crisis. Michelle's career includes employment at Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Children's Mercy in Kansas City, and North Kansas City hospital as well as Comprehensive Mental Health Services in Independence, MO, and Phoenix Family located in Kansas City, MO. 

Michelle Asby has been trained in EMDR an evidenced based treatment used to support people with PTSD as well as anxiety, depression, and other mental health conditions. She is a trained professional in crisis intervention, suicide prevention services, certified Mental Health First Aid instructor, and was awarded the 2017 Mental Health Professional of the Year from Mid America Crisis Intervention Council and 2017 Team Member of the Year at Comprehensive Mental Health Services.

Michelle Asby believes all people are unique and deserving of a life of wellness and opportunity to thrive using their unique strengths and abilities. Her belief in the power of the human spirit guides her personal life and professional career in leading individuals to a life of recovery and self-fulfillment.

In her spare time, she volunteers in various music ministries and is co-founder of adaptive dance program and teaches dance to youth with special needs and exceptionalities. Michelle has previously served as the mental health representative on the Mid America Crisis Intervention Team Council executive board. 

Michelle Asby holds a master’s degree in social work from the University of Kansas and a bachelor of science in recreational therapy from Northwest Missouri State University.

I am a strong supporter of 1st responders and I am proud of my history with local police departments providing interventions to individuals in crisis. I am a volunteer trainer for CIT Basic Courses and also Mental Health Awareness programs for Kansas City Police Department. I sit as a board member of the Mid America Crisis Intervention Team Council and continue my work to train officers to be better equipped to handle individuals with mental health as well as advocate for officers to get seek mental health support.
